Three Habits That Keep You Rooted

Introduction

In a world that glorifies hustle, unpredictability, and rapid reinvention, staying rooted can feel like a form of rebellion. But staying rooted isn’t about staying stuck. It’s about being anchored. Anchored in your values, rhythms, and your source.

Whether you’re a builder, healer, leader, or visionary, the only way to build a sustainable life is to start with the root system. Not the highlight reel. Not the next strategy. But the inner ground that holds you.

In this blog, I’m giving you three habits that will keep you rooted spiritually, emotionally, and mentally, no matter what season you're in. These aren’t just ideas I teach; they are rhythms I live by. And when I drift from them, everything in my world starts to wobble.

Habit 1: Consecrated Mornings (Not Just Quiet Time)

We’re not talking about a checkbox devotion. We’re talking about starting your day from alignment, not anxiety.

A consecrated morning is a grounded morning.

I used to wake up reaching for my phone. Emails. Notifications. Texts. Before I even brushed my teeth, I was already in the world’s atmosphere instead of God’s. But I remember the ten years ago when God lovingly but firmly said, "Give Me your first fruit." It wasn’t about performance. It was about protection.

Now, my mornings begin in silence. I turn on my diffuser and sit with my Bible and journal. Sometimes I just sit in stillness and say, “Holy Spirit, I invite You into this day.”

It changed everything. My pace. My peace. My posture.

"Rooted people don’t rush into the world’s noise without first receiving heaven’s sound."

Whether it’s 10 minutes or an hour, your morning matters.

Try This: Commit to 7 days of "firstfruit focus." Before you touch your phone, center your soul: "Lord, anchor me in Your truth before I engage anything else."

Write one Scripture down each morning and sit with it. Don’t try to finish a plan, try to hear a word.

Habit 2: Rhythmic Living (Not Reactive Hustling)

There was a time when I wore exhaustion like a badge of honor. If I wasn’t busy, I wasn’t valuable. I lived in launch mode, always pouring, never pausing. Sad thing is, I never realized it.

And then my body said: “No more.”

I burned out. My creativity dried up. My emotions became unpredictable. And my prayer life, the thing that once rooted me, felt like a chore.

That’s when God began to teach me about rhythm. Not routines. Not productivity

hacks. Rhythm. The kind of rhythm that honors your divine wiring. The kind of rhythm that makes room for silence, slow mornings, nourishing food, and sacred pauses.

Now, I block rest days the same way I block meetings. I journal my energy patterns using my Quarterly Wellness Planner and Wellness Coach GPT. I listen to what my soul is whispering instead of bulldozing through deadlines.

"You’re not lazy. You’re listening to the wisdom of your design."

Ask yourself:

  • What time of day do I feel most at peace?

  • What kind of rest recharges me?

  • What throws me out of rhythm?

Try This: Block one day per week this month for full restoration; no hustle, no guilt. Just nourishment. That might look like nature walks, journaling, deep breathing, or an anointed nap (I've been saying naps are anointed for years.....lol). Permit yourself to feel good in your life, not just productive.

Habit 3: Intentional Check-Ins With Yourself

I used to override my emotions like they were an inconvenience. I’d feel the nudge to slow down, but say, "After this launch. After this meeting. After this event."

I found myself crying in my car after a speaking engagement because I hadn’t stopped to ask myself: "How are you really doing, Shelby?"

Now I check in with myself weekly. Not out of weakness, but wisdom.

"Staying rooted isn’t passive. It’s deeply intentional."

Here are three questions I ask every Saturday:

  • What felt aligned this week?

  • What felt forced?

  • Where did I people-please instead of following my spirit?

Sometimes the answers convict me. Other times, they comfort me. But they always realign me.

Journal Prompt: What does my body need today? What does my soul need today? What does my spirit crave today?

Write your answers. Pray them back to God. Let Him meet you where you are, not where you pretend to be.

Final Thoughts: Rooted = Ready

Rooted people are ready people.

When your roots are deep, you can:

  • Weather disappointment without unraveling

  • Resist comparison without shrinking

  • Rest without guilt

  • Move slowly without losing momentum

I know what it’s like to look productive on the outside but be falling apart on the inside.

That’s why I protect these habits like my peace depends on them, because it does.

You don’t need a reinvention. You need a return.

A return to:

  • What centers you

  • What slows you down

  • What reconnects you with heaven’s rhythm

So this month, let these habits become anchors.

Build from rest. Live from alignment. Grow slow and deep.

And from that place? You’ll rise.
